Good Medicine - December 2009

Merry Christmas!

We wrapped up harvest last week.  I am so thankful.  We have been busy catching up with things that didn't get done while we were harvesting.  We still haven't put up our tree yet, but hope to this week.

This year I have really been asking myself 'what is the real meaning of Christmas anyway?'  I guess it is because I now have 4 very young children who I am shaping and teaching their understanding and future traditions.  I am not going to put too much pressure on myself with this.  I am sure we will muddle our way through this and they will learn.

I was talking with a friend the other day who said they were planning on carolling at a nursing home, but were told they couldn't.  The concern was the spread of flu and viruses.  I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV so I can't really make a judgment on this, but it did bring to mind a really cool Proverb.

In Proverbs 17:22 we read, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."  What a wonderful truth.  Then it hit me.  That is it.  That is the true meaning of Christmas.  God sent Jesus to restore our relationship with Him.  This gives us hope and puts joy in our hearts.  It is good medicine.

So many of us spend lots of time and money searching for 'good medicine' that will put that joy in our hearts.  We buy this, drink that, read this, go here, eat this, wear that, visit here, smoke that, drive this, hoping that these will 'refresh our dry bones', but they don't.  Jesus is the 'good medicine' for a broken heart.

As we gather with family and friends this Christmas, I hope we take to heart this simple truth and put it into practice.  God restored us to have a relationship with Him when we didn't deserve it.  Let us offer this same restoration to those around us even if they do not deserve it.

Merry Christmas!  Toast Jesus, God's good medicine.  Cheers!

Hams, Pies and More

Of course, our hams are good medicine too.  (just kidding)

We have plenty in stock, but they are going fast.  We have some pies left too, but they are going really fast.

We also have lots of other great pork, beef and chicken products available to enhance your Christmas dinners and other celebrations.

Consider our delicious Amish noodles for a pasta side dish. Our Corn Salsa is a tasty snack tray addition.  If you haven't tried either, you might want to stop by and get some.

We are open this Friday and Saturday, the 18th and 19th.  We will be open Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd next week.  The hours for each of these days is 10-3.  We will be closed the rest of this year.

Something for us.

God has really been focusing my heart towards relationships and community.  I really felt led to do this new project for us and our community.  I put my web gurus Tony and Donna on it and so without further ado... I give you...

www.mycountrycommunity.com

This is for us.  It is brand new.  It will develop as time goes by.  We would love your feedback and also your involvement.  Please feel free to participate and make it your site.  I also would love for you to send the link for this site to your friends, neighbors and family.  I would love schools, and churches and local businesses to sign up and post their info here.

MyCountryCommunity is a community portal for news, resources, announcements, free advertising of events and businesses, and a place for everyone to share photos with your neighbors. Take a moment to visit the site, sign up, browse around and start uploading.  Tell us what you think.

Once again, thanks for supporting us this year.  Our business has a long way to go, but we are taking one baby step at a time thanks to you.

Chris
