Chris' Thinking Tank

Fate or Father? - March 2010

Greetings!

It is the beautiful month of March!  Spring is coming!  Yippee!  Soon, we'll be firing up the grills!  I certainly hope winter has been somewhat kind to you.

I would like to share a story with you that I experienced last week.

I was working in my office and Melissa, out of the blue, asked me to go get ice cream because her dad was coming over for supper.  I finished what I was doing and drove to the grocery store.  I parked, walked in, went to the ice cream freezer and got my ice cream and walked to the check-out counter.  There was one couple in front of me in line.  They had purchased about 10 lbs of popcorn.

As I stood waiting, the cashier asked the usual question of 'did you find everything you were looking for?'.  Normally, most people say 'yeah', but this couple said 'no'.  The husband said they were looking for Ladyfinger popcorn.

Hey, I said to myself, I sell Ladyfinger at our store.  Should I say something? Of course; so I did.

"Excuse me sir, but I sell Ladyfinger at my store," I said.
"Where is your store?" the husband said.
"It is just up the road about 3 miles."
"Are you Birky's?"
"Yes, I am Chris"
"We just came from there.  We were at Wiseway in Valpo and the lady there told us to go to Birky's Market.  We stopped, but you were closed."
"I will be glad to meet you there sometime."
"We are from Dyer, IN."
"We can run up there now if you like."
"Really?"
"No problem."

So I met them at the store and they bought their Ladyfinger popcorn.  I encouraged them to buy the Tiny Tender White corn also.

Everyone that I have told that story to said the exact same thing, 'What are the odds of that happening?'

Some may say that it was fate.  I choose to believe it was Father.  My Father in Heaven is an intimate, interactive God that cares about everything.  Every moment of everyday, He gives us opportunities to bless people around us and also be blessed.  Somehow He gives us free choice in the midst of a complex, organized creation.  He cares for us.

I love the verses and the kid's song that tells us to "... consider the lillies they toil not or spin, they bask in God's sunshine and drink in God's rain, if God cares for them in such marvelous ways, how much more will He care for us and provide our every need every day!  Why, because He loves us!"

There are other verses that I appreciate. "They ask me as a dad that if my child asks me for bread would I give them a stone or if they ask me for fish, would I give them a snake.  Of course not!"

Exactly.  So if that is how imperfect Me gives to my children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who love Him!

Not fate, all Father! He allone provides!

We really appreciate everyone that sent letters to our State officials regarding BOAH State Inspection.  It was put to Stay, but still needs to be structured for the future.

Also thanks for everyone that helped us empty out our freezer!  It was remarkable!  No, unbelievable!

Hams, Hams, Hams!

Check out coming events!

Thanks!
