Chris' Thinking Tank

February 26, 2010

Good Morning!

We had a pretty snow yesterday.  The wind was mightly cold, but it was sure nice seeing the sun.

I seem to enjoy winter more and more which seems really weird.  I don't care for the cold, but appreciate the slower schedule.  The weather and the shorter days encourage more home time and more rest, which is good.

Longer days are soon to come and it generally means longer days.  Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and enjoy doing it.  Days like yesterday also make winter more appreciable.  The great feeling that sunshine and warmer, longer days wouldn't be so refreshing if it wasn't for dark, cold winter.

FYI - most of the cabinet doors in the basement are now installed!  Woo-hoo!

This week I weaned some piglets from their moms (sows).  They are doing well.  I washed and sanitized the farrowing barn and moved in some ready to pig sows.  They are due today.  It is the funnest part of what I do.

We started cleaning our pens.  They freeze up over winter and you can't clean them like you want.  As we start to get some thawing, we can get to them.  Winter and early spring is when we try to apply our manure to our fields.  It is very natural fertilizer for our crops that we will plant.

I am finding myself windling down my project list for the winter.  I have a few left, but need a little better weather.  Some have been eliminated due to lack of funds at this time.

We have started getting calls for catering events.  I imagine that will continue for some time.

I have started not carrying my cell phone with me at all times.  This has been wonderful.  It is not that I don't want to talk with people, but it is good to have undistraction time.

I keep it in my truck and do check it and do call people back.  it wasn't that long ago that I didn't have one at all.  I don't like it when anything of the priveliges and blessings in this world begin to enslave me.

I hope to work outside today.

I do hope that you have a great day!

Chris
