Chris' Thinking Tank

The "Haiti" next door

What a horrific tragedy.  Even before the earthquake there was inequity.  This truly widens that gap of fairness.

I have had a couple people ask the question of 'why would God do this?'  I don't claim to have the corner knowledge on this, but find peace in this understanding...  This is not the world God orignially intended, this is the world we chose.  Because of our choice, this is a fallen, imperfect world.  It is all consequences of the original disobedience.  It affects everyone.  The comforting part is that God just didn't say, 'you got yourself into it, now you get yourself out.'  He came here to experience it.  He sent back His Spirit to live in us and help us through it.  He didn't stop there, He promises a new and perfect world to come!

It warms my heart to see the huge collective effort trying to help the people of Haiti.  It is Jesus working through us.  The pressing thought this morning in prayer is don't forget the Haiti next door.

God is right.  We don't have to witness a horrific earthquake across the globe to see people that are hurt, depressed, struggling to live.  We can see it all around us.  It is the person at the gas station, or our neighbor down the street.  It is the new family at school.

Jesus summed up all the rules of life into 3 simple ones:

Love God, Love your Neighbor and Love your enemies.

He said that we are to love others as he has loved us.

We are to treat others the way we want to be treated.

Bless you for your help with the people of Haiti.

Please take some time and let God show you the "Haiti" next door.

Chris
