A Blessed Happy New Year to you!
A new year is upon us. I do lots of reflecting this time of year. I look ahead and look behind. As I look back on 2009, I am brought back to reality in my looking at 2010. December 17 is a date that we will never forget. We adopted our son, Aiden on that day.
Last year at this time, we had no idea that in June, out of the blue, a young woman would ask us to adopt her soon to be born son. What a miracle. God is amazing! God is funny. Only He knows what 2010 will bring.
It is kind of like getting on a roller coaster that you've never been on and it is dark before every hill and turn. The lights only come on when you really need to see. I dislike roller coasters, but I do love God.
I find it really cool to think about Jesus being adopted. He was adopted into the royal line of David. Adoption is a huge part of God. Jesus' birth adopted him into God's family. His death and resurrection adopts all of us into God's family. I am an adopted child of God! I can tell you without out a doubt, I could never love my children any more than I do and the same holds way more true with God toward us.
When life and the ole' Devil try to get me down, I just say to myself, no way... I am a child of God! Then I usually eat a pork burger and feel a whole lot better!
If you are a resolution maker, then I encourage you to make a commitment to live in expectation of God over every hill and around every corner. Get on and enjoy the ride. There will be both pleasant and unpleasant times this year, but they will all work out for good because God is with us. That was the name that the angel told Joseph to call Jesus...Immanuel - "God with us" How cool is that.
I don't know what lies ahead for you in 2010, but I can tell you this...I am praying for you. I pray that you have hope - hope that it will work out no matter what life is presenting you right now. It is not a hope that the world can give, but a hope that no matter what, we can and always will be an adopted child of God - and reap the blessings as such.
Melissa and I do truly view each of you as part of our family. I hope God blesses and refreshes you this year. I hope we at Birky's can be a part of that blessing and refreshing. Do know that God continues to use you as a blessing and refreshment for us. We may not know what the road will bring in 2010, but at least we know we can share the journey together. Celebrate! WE ARE ADOPTED!
Our phone is starting to ring!
Over the next month or so, we'll start getting lined up for catering events. If you have an event that you would like us to share with you, please get your name on that date soon. We can work out the details later. We love making your celebrations GREAT!
